See and Learn First Written Words - Activities
There are four activities in See and Learn First Written Words:
- Matching First Written Words
This activity introduces a group of four written words - in a book (or books) and
a matching game - using the written words only. The activity encourages your child
to look closely at the words and see the differences between them. It will also
help your child to learn to recognise the written words.
- Selecting First Written Words
This activity encourages your child to show that he/she recognises a written word
and understands its meaning. Reading the See and Learn
First Written Words book or books together also continues as
an important part of the activity.
- Naming First Written Words
This activity encourages your child to name or 'read aloud' the written words. This
could be through saying the words, signing the words, or both. Reading the
See and Learn First Written Words book or books together also
continues as an important part of the activity.
- Matching First Written Phrases
to Pictures
When your child has completed the previous three reading activities for all four
sets of words this is the final activity in See and Learn First
Written Words. This matching activity encourages your child to show his/her
understanding of two 'key' words in a sentence. This ensures that your child is able
to understand what he/she is reading, and that he/she is ready to move on to the
next stage of See and Learn which includes
See and Learn First Sentences and
See and Learn More Sentences.
Progressing through the activities
Start the first activity (Matching First Written
Words) with the first set of 4 words.
Complete the first three activities with this set of words before introducing the
next set of four words into the first activity. When you have completed the first
three activities with all four sets of four words you
can move on to the final activity (Matching
First Written Phrases to Pictures).
