See and Learn Speech
See and Learn Speech will be a programme of activities designed to help children
with Down syndrome develop their speech skills.
About See and Learn Speech
Most children with Down syndrome have unclear speech - they are often difficult
to understand when they are talking. Research indicates that speech clarity can
be improved so that 80% of teenagers can be understood by unfamiliar listeners,
given high quality support (instead of only 50% without intervention).
The See and Learn Speech programme will provide guidance and resources
to support activities to help children to develop better speech discrimination and
clearer speech production. Speech discrimination and speech production abilities
start to develop in the first year of life therefore See and Learn Speech will provide
activities from birth.
Free to use
See and Learn Speech will be provided free of charge online by
Down Syndrome Education International. Anyone will be able to download and
use the programme without charge.
