See and Learn Numbers
See and Learn Numbers
will be a visually-based set of teaching resources that will help children who have
Down syndrome develop their numeracy skills.
About See and Learn Numbers
Children who have Down syndrome find learning to count and to calculate particularly
challenging and research shows that their mathematics skills are routinely delayed
relative to reading skills. There is some evidence that maths skills can be improved
using materials that build on the children's visual learning strengths and represent
number concepts and operations visually.
See and Learn Numbers will provide activities to break number learning
into smaller steps, and use visual materials to support learning to count and to
calculate. It will also include materials to support the teaching of time and money.
Free to use
See and Learn Numbers will be provided free of charge online by
Down Syndrome Education International. Anyone will be able to download and
use the program without charge.
